Driving lessons on the Kāpiti Coast: prices compared
Kāpiti lesson lengths and conditions differ, so the headline number can mislead. Driving 101's $95 lesson runs 75 minutes, which works out at $76 an hour. PassRite charges $75 in your own car or $85 in theirs. One Stop is $80.00 in a One Stop car or $80.00 in your own. AA is $75 for members and $90 otherwise.
Four providers publish enough for a useful comparison on the Kāpiti Coast. This page is published by One Stop Driver Training, which is one of the four. Competitor details come from each school's own website, checked on 1 November 2026, and the order below is alphabetical rather than a ranking.
One Stop prices below update from our booking prices; competitor figures retain the check date above. We have left out pass rates and star ratings because the schools measure them differently and we cannot verify them. Read each provider's reviews yourself, and confirm any price before you book, because most of these pages do not show when they were last updated.
Kāpiti driving lesson prices
The last column converts each price to an hourly rate so that different lesson lengths can be compared fairly. It does not account for travel, package discounts or what happens during the lesson.

Pickup and service area
Driving 101 says pickup is included in Paraparaumu and Raumati and costs extra further out. PassRite says it operates solely in the Kāpiti region, and its $75 own-car price is listed for Paraparaumu. AA's location page names the Kāpiti Coast without listing Paraparaumu separately.
One Stop covers Kāpiti as part of a wider area that continues through Horowhenua to Palmerston North. You can choose pickup or a meeting point, and the booking form checks your address before it shows times. If you live in Ōtaki, Waikanae or Te Horo, ask every provider whether travel changes the price or shortens the lesson.

Automatic, manual and using your own car
Driving 101 and PassRite both publish automatic and manual lessons, and PassRite describes dual-control cars. AA says transmission varies by instructor. One Stop lets you choose automatic or manual for your own car when you book, so ask about the One Stop car if you specifically need to learn in a manual.
Using your own car is $10 cheaper at PassRite. Compare One Stop's current own-car and company-car prices above. Learning in the car you will practise in has a real benefit, though dual controls and a car you are not worried about damaging can help a nervous beginner.

Packages and getting ready for your test
AA publishes a five-lesson package at $325 for members and $450 otherwise. PassRite says prepaid packages are discounted but does not publish the amounts on its homepage, so ask for them in writing. Before prepaying anywhere, check the expiry date, refund terms and whether you keep the same instructor.
The way the full licence works changes on 25 January 2027, so make sure any advice you receive is current. A lesson plan aimed at safe independent driving will serve you better than repeating one supposed test route.

Send your top two providers the same short message: your licence stage, your address, the times you can do and the transmission you want. Ask for the total cost and the next available time. The replies will tell you about price, and also how easy each one is to deal with.
If you may need more than car lessons later, One Stop runs truck and workplace training too. If all you need is a Kāpiti-based instructor at the lowest hourly price, the table above is a fair place to start.
