AA Driving School vs One Stop: prices and lessons compared
A one-hour One Stop lesson is $80.00 including GST. A one-hour AA lesson is $90 at the standard price or $75 for AA Members, and AA also sells a discounted starter lesson and a five-lesson package. Compare the current One Stop rate with the AA rate you qualify for. One Stop suits people who want one flat price, or who may move on to truck or workplace training later.
Both businesses teach car lessons in Palmerston North, Levin and on the Kāpiti Coast, so they often end up on the same shortlist. Where each one is a better fit
AA is a national brand with many instructors, which can help if you move around the country or want a package discount. Its member pricing is the clearest saving on this page, particularly the $40 starter lesson for members.
One Stop is a local business covering Kāpiti, Horowhenua and Manawatū. The same team also runs Class 2, 4 and 5 truck courses, forklift, wheels, tracks and rollers, and dangerous goods training. That matters mostly if you expect to need those later, or if an employer is arranging training for several people.
- Already an AA Member: compare the member rates first.
- No membership and only a few lessons: compare $80.00 with $90 an hour.
- Planning several lessons: price the whole plan, not one hour.
- Likely to need a truck or forklift licence: ask about both.

Your car, our car and transmission
One Stop charges $80.00 in a One Stop car or $80.00 in your own. Your own car needs a current WoF, and you can choose automatic or manual when you book.
AA's FAQ says transmission varies by instructor, so check that the instructor you are booking offers the one you want. Whichever provider you choose, think about the car you will practise in between lessons. Drive explains the transmission condition that can follow a restricted test taken in an automatic.

Cancelling and changing a lesson
This is one area where AA's published terms are more flexible. AA asks for more than 24 hours' notice, and otherwise charges the full fee. One Stop asks for 48 hours' notice to change a booking, and customer cancellations are not refunded, as set out in our booking terms.
If your week is hard to predict, read both sets of terms before you buy, especially for a package. A cheaper lesson stops being cheaper if you are likely to lose it.

Pickup and booking
One Stop lessons start from a pickup address or a set meeting point, and the booking form checks whether your address is covered before showing times. AA's location page names Palmerston North, Levin and the Kāpiti Coast, and its bookings are made online. Paraparaumu is not named separately on that page, so ask AA if you live there.
Both businesses let you choose online, but the time you want depends on which instructor is free in your area. It is worth checking both calendars before deciding on price alone.

Yes. The current hourly price in your own car is $80.00, your car needs a current WoF, and you choose automatic or manual when you book.
