Class 5 Licence Course

Our Class 5 Licence Course helps you achieve your licence to drive a combination vehicle with a gross combined weight of over 25000kg; including any Class 1, 2, 3 & 4 vehicle.
One Stop Driver Training is based in Levin, Horowhenua and runs regular courses in Palmerston North, Manawatū, Kāpiti, and Wellington (including Upper and Lower Hutt).
Before you can attend the course, you must have your Class 5 Learner Licence.
Currently we do not have access to hire a Class 5 vehicle, but are continuing to try and source one.
If you supply the vehicle, you will need to ensure it has the adequate loading and restraints, of at least 50% of the payload. We will need to weigh it prior to using it through an appropriate weigh station.
$1,400 (you supply the vehicle).
Course Content
Day One
Unit Standard 24089
Demonstrate knowledge of fatigue management, work time, and driver logbook requirements. Allow for at least seven hours.
If you have successfully completed it with an approved driver licensing course provider either:
- within the previous 12 months, or
- more than 12 months ago, and the course provider is able to confirm that you have retained the necessary knowledge and skills.
You may not have to complete this course again. You will need to provide proof of completion, not just a NZQA record of learning.
Day Two
Unit Standard 17577
Operate a combination vehicle to meet the requirements for a Full Class 5 Driver Licence. Allow for at least five hours.
Day Three
Practical test for the Class 5 Licence.
Part of the course fee allows for up to two hours of training before your practical assessment. If you require more than the two hours of training, then an additional fee of $130 per hour inclusive of GST will be charged.
NB: Sometimes the practical test can be completed on the second day after the theory test.
